About The Position

We are currently seeking a Project Execution Superintendent to join our Project Execution Team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. The permanent position will be on rotation, working from the Voisey’s Bay mine site as well as from the St. John’s office. As a Project Execution Superintendent, you will lead the development and delivery of capital and opex projects by planning budgets and priorities, managing project execution from business case through commissioning, and ensuring alignment with safety, quality, scope, schedule, and cost objectives. Your experience and skills will add value by driving and implementing best practices and collaborating across teams to successfully deliver projects and achieve operational goals.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years experience in a similar leadership role is required.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams by providing direction, coaching, and support while promoting safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, balance multiple responsibilities, and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, assess risks, and develop practical solutions to achieve project objectives.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work effectively with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation would be an asset.
  • Technical understanding of underground mining is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage capital and opex projects through all phases, from planning and engineering to construction, commissioning, and close-out. Ensuring compliance with project management standards, quality requirements, and governance processes.
  • Oversee engineering development, including underground infrastructure scopes, FEL studies, reliability assessments, and quality planning.
  • Define and manage project scope, working with stakeholders to identify risks, clarify deliverables, and ensure scope completion across all phases.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, costs, forecasting, contracts, and stakeholder communications. Identify and mitigate project risks, addressing schedule or budget variances, and resolving onsite conflicts.
  • Supervise safe field execution, ensuring project‑specific safety plans, SHE reviews, hazard assessments, and incident investigations are completed and effective.
  • Control project costs, including budgeting, purchase orders, change orders, accruals, contract management, and financial authorization processes.
  • Lead project teams, establishing roles, coordinating Vale and contractor resources, and maintaining strong communication channels among all stakeholders.
  • Ensure full compliance with capital processes, auditing standards, tool usage, schedules, cost controls, and documentation accuracy.
  • Lead capital planning & reporting, including KPI development, variance analysis, 5‑year capital planning, and monthly forecasting accountability.
  • Conduct project reviews, ensuring lessons learned, post‑project evaluations, and corrective actions are completed and sustained.
