About The Position

Birdwatch PBC simplifies homeownership by coordinating preventive maintenance, handling repairs, and assisting owners with home improvements. Building on the legacy of flock dc, Birdwatch prioritizes exceptional care for clients, properties, the community, and its team members through a model of accountability and trust. This role is for an individual with strong practical field knowledge in residential construction, remodeling, handyman services, or general contracting, who can accurately assess project scope and pricing. The position is part-time, remote, and requires approximately 15-20 hours of consistent availability per week to ensure efficient job processing.

Requirements

  • Strong practical field knowledge in residential construction, remodeling, handyman services, or general contracting.
  • Ability to look at a project and quickly understand the real scope of work.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Ability to think like both a technician and a business owner.
  • Experience as a General Contractor, operating their own business, managing projects, overseeing subcontractors, or years solving real-world home service problems in the field.
  • Approximately 15–20 hours per week with consistent availability throughout the workweek.

Responsibilities

  • Review incoming job requests and accurately scope projects based on available information.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to gather additional context or ask members clarifying questions—only when necessary.
  • Scope jobs ranging from small, simple tasks (e.g. replacing an outlet cover or re-caulking a tub) to larger, more complex projects (e.g. re-staining an entire fence or repairing multiple areas of drywall).
  • Determine realistic, fair-market project pricing while balancing labor expectations, material considerations, operational efficiency, and overall project profitability.
  • Match each job with the technician or trade professional best suited for the work.
  • Apply practical field judgment to identify incomplete scopes, hidden complexity, sequencing concerns, or situations where additional information may be needed before work is assigned.
  • Track job outcomes to evaluate pricing accuracy, profitability, and member satisfaction, and help build feedback loops for our growing pricing engine.
  • Maintain consistent weekly availability (approximately 15–20 hours per week) so member requests, technician support, and project assignments continue moving efficiently and without unnecessary delays.
