About The Position

JATEC is seeking an Estimator / Project Manager to join their team. This role is responsible for both the successful pursuit and delivery of construction projects. The position combines estimating expertise with hands-on project management leadership. The successful candidate will prepare competitive and accurate estimates, manage client relationships, oversee project execution, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, on budget, and to specification. The Estimator / Project Manager will play a key role in supporting operational excellence, driving financial performance, and continually improving workflows, systems, and project delivery processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in construction estimating and/or project management.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and project delivery processes.
  • Experience in shallow utilities, electrical, civil, telecommunications, or infrastructure construction.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with construction management and estimating software. Examples include B2W, MS Project, SmartSheet, Viewpoint, SharePoint, and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP certification or working toward certification considered an asset.
  • Journeyperson Electrician designation considered an asset.
  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field considered an asset.
  • Experience with ERP systems and project cost tracking software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project requirements.
  • Compile and organize tender submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Solicit, review, and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
  • Prepare change estimates and pricing for extra work.
  • Assist in developing project schedules and execution plans during tendering stages.
  • Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings as required.
  • Manage projects from award through closeout while maintaining client satisfaction and project profitability.
  • Establish project budgets, schedules, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor financial progress, costs, productivity, and risk throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and field resources.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients, consultants, field crews, and stakeholders.
  • Track project progress and support accurate and timely invoicing.
  • Identify and proactively resolve project challenges, deficiencies, and conflicts.
  • Lead change management and adapt to evolving project requirements.
  • Promote and support JATEC’s safety culture and COR-certified safety program.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S legislation, Alberta One Call requirements, and company safety procedures.
  • Integrate safety into planning, estimating, and project execution.
  • Oversee quality control processes to ensure work meets specifications and client expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with clients, consultants, vendors, and project stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams and support staff.
  • Collaborate across departments to improve operational efficiency and project outcomes.
  • Professionally represent JATEC’s values and commitment to excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal processes and systems.
