Project Engineering Manager - Overhead Transmission Line
About The Position
A leading U.S. engineering firm is seeking a senior-level transmission line engineer to lead complex overhead transmission projects for utility customers and mentor engineering teams. This role is heavily focused on structural design and offers strong compensation and long-term growth. The company is a major player in the electric power transmission industry, experiencing high demand due to the growing need for electricity from data centers, electric vehicles, etc. This position is open to candidates located near major U.S. engineering offices in Tualatin, OR, Irvine, CA, Houston, TX, Overland Park, KS, Denver, CO, Bloomington, MN, Ann Arbor, MI, Raleigh, NC, or Orlando, FL. The role involves working on a national basis with no travel required.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of overhead transmission line design experience (69kV+ required)
- PLS-CADD experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (other engineering degrees considered)
- The ideal candidate will come from another engineering, consulting firm rather than an electric utility company.
- PLS-CADD is a must-have!
Nice To Haves
- PE license preferred
- Experience with steel, wood, laminate, and composite structures
- Lattice tower experience is a plus
- EPC and/or utility services experience preferred
- U.S. investor-owned utility transmission projects
- Strong understanding of PLS-CADD, line routing, structural loading, and foundation design
- Experience coordinating with procurement, permitting, land, and construction teams
- Proposal support and engineering cost estimating experience
- Experience with 500kV+ projects strongly preferred
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering execution for large or multi-project transmission programs
- Prepare and review complex engineering deliverables and calculations
- Manage budgets, schedules, and quality across disciplines
- Lead and mentor engineering teams; provide PLS-CADD training
- Serve as technical lead and responsible charge on projects
- Interface with clients and support pursuit/business development efforts
- Design cement slabs into dirt making sure on secured ground
- Calculate correct designs for up to top weight of cables
