About The Position

The Project Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting a multi-disciplinary engineering team to drive the delivery of the engineering work from design, functional design, detail design, planning, construction and ultimately to achieve acceptance, ensuring that all engineering scope of work for the project is completed, to meet cost and schedule requirements. The role provides a comprehensive project view to support engineering teams meet their commitments, and address issues, mitigate risks and improve opportunities. This position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a 2nd or 3rd year, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Integrated Engineering, Naval Architecture, Systems Engineering degree program.
  • Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Engineering concepts within a production environment.
  • Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Self-starter with motivated curiosity and excellent communications skills
  • An ability to apply engineering skills using analytical tools and methods
  • Thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset)
  • Strong technical skills including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent digital literacy including Excel/Word/ PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time effectively
  • Good organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Applies a project management approach to complete pre-production and production support activities, including work performed by major subcontractors, and ensure the efficient delivery of engineering outputs.
  • Supports the Project Engineering Team for the Joint Support Ships (JSS) by developing tools & processes to solve sophisticated technical problems to support ship building milestones.
  • Identifies inefficiencies and areas that could be improved in the process and works with supervisor to determine potential solutions.
  • Drives timely closure of technical issues to ensure that all engineering deliverables and inputs to other stakeholders are achieved and meet (or exceed) commitments.
  • Responsible for application of an appropriate engineering maturity management culture and appropriate engineering lifecycle management, aligned with project objectives.
  • Ensures maturity targets are agreed with key stakeholders.
