About The Position

Universal Rail Solutions Inc. is seeking a Railway Signals Project Engineer to support the design, review, and implementation of railway signaling systems in accordance with regulatory standards, client specifications, and internal quality systems. This role is responsible for generating and reviewing signaling design drawings in compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and internal engineering procedures. Working closely with the Engineering team, this role supports the design lifecycle from concept through commissioning, while maintaining drafting discipline, ISO compliance, and quality control across signaling deliverables. This role is more than design — it’s about engineering safe, reliable systems that protect rail operations every day.

Requirements

  • University or college degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of railway signaling design experience
  • Strong understanding of signaling principles and industry standards
  • Proficiency with CAD and drafting systems
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Solid planning, organizational, and time‑management abilities
  • Familiarity with modern software development tools
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Working knowledge of ISO quality systems and documentation requirements
  • Operational knowledge and an understanding of field commissioning activities

Nice To Haves

  • P.Eng designation is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review railway signaling and electrical layout/design drawings
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and governing bodies (e.g., CSA, TSSA, AREMA)
  • Maintain company and client drafting standards within the Engineering department
  • Maintain and apply current CAD standards across drawings and development work
  • Perform work accurately within established cost and schedule limits
  • Act as an independent checker for signaling designs and data prepared by others
  • Update and revise existing drawings as required
  • Assist Mechanical Designers with layout and design drawings
  • Maintain product standards and oversee quality control programs per ISO 9001:2015 requirements
  • Support ISO documentation and processes for purchasing, production, assembly, installation, NCRs, CPARs, and internal audits
  • Program PLCs (e.g., ScadaPack) for signaling and related applications
  • Conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) of wired assemblies
  • Participate in on‑site commissioning of signaling systems and equipment
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and operations teams to support project execution
  • Perform additional duties as required to support engineering and production objectives
