About The Position

The Urban Park Service (UPS) Division consists of three units: Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP), Emergency Management and Central Communications. In addition to each division's roles, UPS also manages the content and analysis of the Agency's 311 data. This role is ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform very responsible work in the planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of complex work for the Urban Park Service (UPS).
  • Assist in managing information flow to ensure timely responses.
  • Organize files and materials for the Assistant Commissioner’s review.
  • Manage correspondence including drafting letters, tracking responses and maintaining metrics on behalf of UPS.
  • Research, prioritize and follow up on incoming issues and concerns as directed, and recommend appropriate course of action, referral or response.
  • Strategically manage the Assistant Commissioner’s calendar to ensure an efficient and effective schedule, using sound judgment to determine priorities.
  • Assist with the coordination of special events.
  • Solicit information from UPS management and members to draft briefing documents, biweekly and monthly reports.
  • Communicate and liaise with divisions, other city agencies and key institutional partners.
  • Work closely with NYC Parks’ Press Office on division appropriate responses and stories. Manage sensitive, deadline-driven, often crisis-related agency and press issues. May have to conduct research regarding the inquiries to draft and issue division responses.
  • Research new grant opportunities and provide administrative assistance for grant applications and executing contracts.
  • Serve as a member of the incident command structure during emergency responses.
  • Participate in the activation of the NYC Emergency Operations Center.
