About The Position

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in Suffern, NY seeks Project Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Department. This role involves the design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects, from initial feasibility studies through regulatory approvals and full permitting. The Project Engineer will develop site layouts and designs, including grading, storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, and erosion/sediment control. A key part of the role includes preparing hydrology and hydraulic calculations and understanding NYSDEC stormwater management and SWPPP requirements. Project administration tasks such as report writing, proposal preparation, cost tracking, and progress reporting are also essential. The position requires preparing cost opinions for projects and specifications for public bids, coordinating with internal engineering and architectural departments, and communicating directly with clients. The ultimate responsibility is for the on-time, on-budget, high-quality technical delivery of all project requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills, Autoturn, Excel, and Photoshop.
  • Design experience with a specific focus on site development or municipal engineering projects.
  • Thorough understanding of the entitlement processes on Long Island.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices of related technical areas.
  • Familiarity with the design of public infrastructure and public bidding process.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently or within project teams.
  • Team-spirited, focused and able to make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • EIT/PE desired.

Responsibilities

  • Design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects ranging from due diligence/site feasibility studies, site engineering, through regulatory approvals and full permitting.
  • Develop site layout and design, including site grading and storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, erosion and sediment control.
  • Prepare hydrology and hydraulic calculations and be knowledgeable of NYSDEC stormwater management and SWPPP requirements.
  • Perform project administration including writing reports, gathering information, writing proposals & correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports.
  • Prepare engineer's opinion of probable costs for designed projects and specifications for public bids.
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural departments within the firm.
  • Communicate directly with clients in support and coordination of all project activities.
  • Responsible for the on-time, on budget, high quality technical delivery of all project requirements.
