About The Position

Fort Edmonton Park operates and animates one of Edmonton’s signature attractions and heritage sites that attract nearly 200,000 visitors each year and houses over 120+ heritage and replica heritage buildings. This position plays a key role in leading various strategic, operational projects to support the animation, use and advancement of Fort Edmonton Park. In this role, you will provide input into key business plans, strategies, policies and operational plans that will direct and inform priorities and activities within Fort Edmonton Park. You will represent the facility in projects from meetings to site visits for scope validation to construction integration and handover cycles. You will be the primary liaison with numerous external organizations, internal partners and industry heritage institutions. The role sustains the contract and financial activities that support the operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Education, Heritage/Historical Studies, Project Management, or a related field
  • 7 years of experience in community recreation, working with partner groups
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a City of Edmonton Drivers Permit
  • Ability to coach and mentor teams while building consensus among diverse collaborators
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex on-site projects and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for facilitating resolutions and managing expectations
  • Ability to assess risks, critically analyze issues, and recommend viable solutions
  • Advanced skills in Google applications and web-based communication tools
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, and head protection
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary liaison with other City Departments in the development and implementation of capital projects, and larger scale maintenance projects at Fort Edmonton Park
  • Research and development of business cases, needs assessments, capital profiles, business plans that include budget development and analysis to support long-term needs, functional requirements, project goals and objectives for conservation
  • Contract Sourcing and Requests. Liaise with Corporate Procurement for preparation, tender and management of contracts related to projects. Includes preparing descriptions of work, tender review and evaluation, and execution and management of contracted services (for strategy/operational level projects)
  • Identify, engage and maintain relationships with Internal and External Interest Groups
  • Responsible for ongoing consultation and communication with key stakeholders to establish program needs and priorities and ensure that these are met through the development process
  • Ensuring contract compliance related to day to day operations and keeping open dialogue with vendors and City when issues arise; working towards collaborative win-win resolutions on issues
  • Provide the overall supervision of Fort Edmonton Park site access and parking management teams, working in collaboration with other leadership personnel from various work units within the facilities and grounds to ensure service delivery matches site operational demand
  • Responsible for direct report Museologist to ensure designation status and exhibit management
  • Responsible for Audio Visual team management for various venues, inventories and procurements
  • Build and maintain effective teams by recruiting, coaching, mentoring, advising and counselling staff to create a culture of growth and development; ensure appropriate training plans are in place and followed
  • Provide input and oversight to branch and corporate-level programs such as OH&S process implementation, Public Safety and Security process implementation
  • Oversee the project lifecycle from initiation and design review to the "transition to operate" phase
  • Act as the operational liaison between various partner groups who assist in the operation and animation of Fort Edmonton Park
  • Develop bi-weekly work schedules, approve timesheets, and ensure a safe, respectful workplace culture
  • Respond to inquiries from leadership and members of the community
  • Other duties as assigned
