About The Position

The Program Therapist role is integral to the Acute Mental Health department, focusing on providing intensive stabilization services for children and adolescents experiencing acute mental health concerns. This position works closely with psychiatric providers and a multi-disciplinary team to lead treatment for youth with high-risk psychiatric needs, including suicidal thoughts, homicidal thoughts, and psychosis. The role involves providing individual, family, and group therapy in settings such as Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), or inpatient mental health units. Program Therapists are trained in crisis intervention, resource mobilization, and may be required to support or facilitate physical holds and restraints in high-stress situations. The Program Therapist II may also have opportunities to provide clinical supervision.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy program.
  • For Program Therapist I: LGSW, LAMFT, LPC, LP, or licensure eligibility to provide clinical mental health services under supervision in the State of Minnesota.
  • For Program Therapist I: Pursuing independent licensure in Minnesota (LMFT, LICSW, LPCC, or LP) and complete independent licensure within 3 years of employment.
  • For Program Therapist II: LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC, or licensure eligibility to provide clinical mental health services under supervision in the State of Minnesota.
  • BLS certification required (Basic Life Support).
  • Ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced clinic or hospital environment.
  • Exhibits a high degree of professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to assess and provide intervention services to children and adolescents in acute crisis / experiencing suicidal ideation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Work Experience in an acute mental health or programmatic care setting is preferred (Program Therapist I).
  • One year of work experience providing counseling in a health care or related pediatric setting preferred.
  • Two or more years of work experience in a pediatric-related setting preferred.
  • Curiosity and willingness to develop clinical skills toward the ability to exercise independent judgement and work autonomously.

Responsibilities

  • Lead care for youth in mental health crisis, working closely with partnered psychiatric providers.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy in an acute mental health setting (IOP, PHP, or inpatient mental health unit).
  • Provide crisis intervention services, resource mobilization, or triage of psychosocial, emotional, or behavioral concerns.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary care team to develop treatment goals, assess performance towards goals, and complete discharge or transition planning.
  • Be trained in and potentially support or facilitate the use of physical holds and restraints.
  • Participate in clinical supervision.
  • For Program Therapist II: Provide formal or informal clinical supervision depending on qualifications and program needs.
