About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Office of Legal Affairs at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Supporting Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) operations by managing intake, conducting preliminary research, retrieving and preparing documents, assigning cases to redactors, tracking request pipelines, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring materials are ready for FOIA Officer or Attorney review. Performing administrative and clerical FOIA functions without making redaction or exemption decisions.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of general office procedures, practices and equipment
  • Knowledge of records management standards.
  • Skill in the use of computers.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Skill in scanning tools.
  • Skill in digital record systems.
  • Skill in organizing and managing multiple concurrent FOIA pipelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to read and understand State policies and procedures related to the FOIA and the Code of Virginia.
  • Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions in performing tasks.
  • Ability to maintain accurate digital documentation and perform quality control checks.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in compliance with privacy and security policies.
  • Ability to handle a variety of customer service issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to analyze records and documents.
  • Ability to draft correspondence and documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize and manage FOIA pipelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team.
  • Administrative support experience in a high-volume, deadline driven environment required.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Law office experience highly preferred.
  • FOIA experience in a government environment preferred.
