About The Position

The Program Specialist at Sabra Goldman House provides direct services to clients, assisting them with training in skills of daily living. The position is based in Queens Village and reports to the Program Director. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The specialist teaches and supports skills related to personal hygiene, laundry, apartment cleaning, budgeting, shopping, meal planning, food preparation and cleanup, self-preservation, and travel. The role includes monitoring apartment maintenance, safety, and cleanliness; administering the client cooking safety test; and monitoring, documenting, and teaching self-administration of medication in accordance with program policies and procedures. The specialist reports incidents and behavioral changes to a supervisor, documents services and client progress in a timely manner, attends training as requested, and performs other duties assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma with some undergraduate work in psychology, or a high school diploma with significant experience in human services.
Good organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with adults with serious mental illness is preferred.

Responsibilities

Teach skills for maintaining personal hygiene, doing laundry, and cleaning apartments.
Monitor apartment maintenance and alert the Program Director to maintenance problems.
Teach budgeting, shopping, meal planning, food preparation, and cleanup skills.
Teach self-preservation skills and monitor living units for safety and cleanliness.
Administer the client cooking safety test.
Monitor, document, and teach self-administration of medication according to program policy and procedures.
Report incidents or behavioral changes in residents to a supervisor.
Teach travel skills and escort clients when needed.
Document services rendered and client progress in a timely manner.
Attend training as requested by supervisory staff.
Perform duties assigned by a supervisor.
