About The Position

This position serves as the Logistics/Facilities Specialist for the Central Land Office, responsible for coordinating logistical and facilities support within the protection boundaries of the Central Land Office. The role requires routine communication and support to interagency partners, local officials, and the public. Key responsibilities include determining needs, planning, and initiating support organizations for incidents, performing administrative tasks, and procuring services, equipment, fire provisions, and supplies. This involves ordering, purchasing, and delivery of supplies, water, or equipment, as well as food. The Specialist will also perform logistical duties for the fire program, such as arranging transportation, overseeing resources like port-a-potties and caterers, and developing preseason agreements with vendors for food and water to ensure the Unit can be self-supporting for incidents up to Type 3 level or 100+ people. Additionally, the position involves completing monthly vehicle reports and managing facilities, including developing and implementing facility management policies, planning installation and repair operations, managing upkeep to meet health and safety standards, inspecting buildings, overseeing renovations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing budgets, and recommending upgrades. The role requires essential functions in both office and field settings, with field work involving exposure to varying weather conditions, terrain, and road conditions, travel in mountainous terrain, and potential exposure to smoke, dust, and other fire hazards. Overnight travel and staying onsite are required, and completion of the arduous pack test is encouraged. The position also demands repetitive lifting of objects over 45 pounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience/training in business, communications, office management, natural resources, and working with program rules, processes and procedures in fire suppression, logistics, and facilities maintenance.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software applications.
  • Knowledge of fire management and suppression practices and techniques as related to fire protection systems.
  • Knowledge of jurisdiction and land ownership.
  • Knowledge of the availability, capability, and limitation of resources within the unit.
  • Knowledge of DNRC’s legal requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of map-reading.
  • Knowledge of geographic area and site-specific hazards related to fire suppression.
  • Skill in using job-related software.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Skill in maintaining effectiveness and control under periods of extreme stress.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and apply program rules and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret topographic and aerial maps.
  • Ability to gather, research, assemble, and present information for use by others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with program clientele and the general public.
  • Valid driver's license with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Determine needs, plan, and initiate an appropriate support organization for incidents within the Central Land Office.
  • Perform a series of administrative tasks.

  • Arranging transportation for incoming resources.
  • Ordering, arranging, and overseeing resources such as port-a-potties, shower units, caterers, and other vendors, contractors, or Emergency Fire Fighters (EFF).
  • Complete a comprehensive service and supply plan for the Central Land Office.
  • Develop preseason agreements with area vendors to provide logistical support, specifically food and water.
  • Ensure the Unit can be self-supporting for incidents at the Type 3 level and/or 100+ people.
  • Prepare EERAs, Land Use Agreements, and purchasing agreements, as needed.
  • Complete monthly vehicle reports for all vehicles assigned to the fire program and forward to the Central Land Office Manager.
  • Develop and implement facility management policies and procedures.
  • Work with Area and Unit Managers and staff to develop/improve and implement facilities policies and standards.
  • Plan and coordinate all installation and repair operations.
  • Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards.
  • Inspect buildings' structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.
  • Oversee facility refurbishments, renovations, and building projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Manage facilities budgets and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Recommend upgrades and modifications for improving overall facilities condition.
