About The Position

This opening is for current employees of the Office of the Washington State Auditor Team Audit Support and Quality Assurance. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Quality Assurance. The duty station is flexible but will require occasional work in Olympia and other locations throughout the state. This position will be filled at the Program Manager Level. TAS-QA is responsible for SAO’s agency-wide quality management (QM) program, which includes development of audit methodologies and resources, training, expert-level technical support, and quality monitoring, serving as the agency’s primary authority for interpreting, operationalizing, and integrating professional standards across the agency. As such, the team performs this role for all of SAO’s engagements, including financial audits, single audits, accountability audits, assessments, performance audits, IT audits, attestation engagements, and investigations. In carrying out these responsibilities, the TAS-QA Manager leads the team to support change and innovation throughout the Office, foster alignment across teams, uphold the Office’s mission and values, and promote a professional, respectful and constructive work environment. With external parties, the team is expected to represent the Office’s interests and mission and the state of Washington in audit matters with auditing and accounting standard-setting groups and other state and federal offices across the nation. Nice To Haves

  • 8 years of experience in governmental auditing or accounting, or a combination of both
  • CPA license and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certificate, or commitment to obtaining those credentials within 5 years of hire
  • Experience in project management, supervisory or management roles
  • Experience with the different types of engagements conducted by our Office
  • Experience participating in internal quality control reviews and external peer reviews

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, and leading the functions and work performed by the TAS-QA Team.
  • Managing personnel through assignments, meetings and regular check-ins with staff.
  • Supporting professional development of staff through timely, candid and constructive coaching and relevant PDP plans and evaluations.
  • Leading development and implementation of all facets of the goals, strategies, processes and performance measures for SAO’s quality management program and the related functions assigned to the team.
  • Evaluating Office needs to propose new or changed functions or activities to better support the needs of audit teams and makes recommendations to the Assistant Director of Quality Assurance, the Director of Quality Assurance and Innovation, and SAO management as appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with others across SAO to realize continuous improvement of every aspect of work in which the team is involved.
  • Taking on primary responsibility for a limited number of team projects, processes or roles, and acting in a backup role for most other team responsibilities.
  • Specific roles and duties will depend on the strengths and experience of the candidate and team needs based on assignments for other team members. These other roles may include technical support, training, quality assurance, development of audit guidance, and other TAS-QA activities.
