About The Position

The Corporation of the City of St. Thomas has existing vacancies for Program Instructors for the September 2026 up to June 2027 Season. Programs may include a variety of activities such as Floor Hockey, Dance, Multi Sport, Soccer, Cooking, Science, Robotics, Basketball, Pickleball, Volleyball, Badminton, Arts & Crafts, Learn to Skate, Walking Soccer, Adult Drop-In Programs, Spring Hockey, PA Day Camp and Winter & March Break Camps. The role involves assisting in planning, organizing, and implementing high-quality, age-appropriate recreation activities in a safe environment, ensuring participants are engaged and having fun. Instructors are responsible for following program plans, setting up and tearing down equipment, creating a positive environment, and implementing inclusive programming for all abilities. They act as role models for City values and inclusiveness and ensure quality assurance in program delivery. All activities must be performed safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Corporate Safety policies, using necessary personal protective equipment.

Requirements

Proven competence in area of instruction
Minimum age of 14
Strong oral & written communication skills.
Ability to think and interact effectively, tactfully, and courteously with participants, parents and other staff building a cooperative and collaborative working relationship.
Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check if aged 18+
Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED Certification.

Responsibilities

Assists in planning and organizing and is responsible for implementing and leading high quality recreation activities that are age-appropriate ensuring participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment.
Implements and effectively follows program plans as outlined by the Supervisor of Recreation Programs.
Organizes and assists with the set up and tear down of equipment before and after each lesson (as required).
Creates a positive and enthusiastic environment for the participants.
Possesses knowledge and ability to implement inclusive programming allowing for children and adults of all abilities to participate.
Is a role model of City values and inclusiveness through all interactions with program participants, parents, and co-workers.
Ensures quality assurance in the delivery of all recreational programming.
Performs other duties, responsibilities and functions as assigned.
Performs all activities in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs.
Uses and maintains in good condition all necessary personal protective equipment.
