About The Position

The School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS) is seeking enthusiastic and creative summer students to join our team in a short-term, full-time capacity. Reporting to the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator, Program Facilitators will be primarily responsible for the delivery of SENS Eco Camps. SENS Eco Camps are hands-on, inquiry-based environmental education summer camps for children ages 8 through 12. Through nature exploration, experiments, games, and collaborative projects, campers learn about ecosystems, environmental health, climate change, energy systems, water conservation, and sustainability in engaging and age-appropriate ways. Focus is on leading campers to explore how everyday actions contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders while gaining valuable experience in education, sustainability, outdoor programming, and youth engagement. Program Facilitators will work in a collaborative and supportive environment focused on creativity, learning, and community impact.

Requirements

  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification (required prior to July 3, 2026)
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (required prior to July 3, 2026)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explain complicated concepts in engaging and age-appropriate ways
  • Ability to problem-solve, think flexibly, and adapt activities as needed
  • Comfortable facilitating activities outdoors in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children is considered a strong asset
  • Previous camp, recreation, environmental education, or outdoor education experience is considered an asset
  • Interest in environmental science, sustainability, climate change, or outdoor education is considered a strong asset

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and preparation of program activity materials, learning spaces, and supplies ensuring the safe use of supplies and equipment
  • Participate fully in required training sessions and team debriefs to ensure ongoing program improvement
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding camper medical and personal information
  • Lead the delivery of daily camp activities, lessons, and outdoor exploration while reflecting SENS Vision and Mission in all communications and interactions with campers and their families
  • Supervise campers during all program hours including structured program time, snack/lunch, and pick-up/drop-off transitions
  • Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, teamwork, and environmental stewardship
  • Assist campers in preparing for end-of-camp Symposium with displays or demonstrations highlighting their learning journey
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, positive, and respectful camp environment following all safety, health, and emergency procedures
  • Support transportation of materials across campus, set-up and tear-down of learning spaces, and returning all materials to the home department at the end of each day
  • Complete incident reports accurately and communicate concerns to direct supervisor
  • Assist with other Eco Camp duties assigned by direct supervisor
  • Support collection of camper feedback for evaluation and funder reporting
  • Participate in ongoing program evaluation and program-end debrief meetings
