About The Position

Vantage Group is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Program Specialist, Environment & Sustainability to lead key environmental programs and support the Airport’s long‑term sustainability goals. This role is responsible for managing surface water quality, glycol mitigation, environmental compliance, and sustainability initiatives that reduce the Airport’s environmental footprint and support our commitment to Net Zero Carbon by 2030. Working closely with regulatory agencies, internal teams, tenants, and the City of Hamilton, the Program Specialist ensures that environmental programs, policies, and reporting requirements are effectively implemented and maintained. This position is ideal for a detail‑oriented environmental professional who thrives in a hands‑on operational environment and is passionate about advancing environmental performance and sustainability in the aviation sector.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Environmental Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in environmental management, preferably with surface water quality and glycol mitigation exposure
  • Experience conducting fieldwork, including water sampling and inspections
  • Ability to obtain and maintain: Aeronautical Radio License, Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP), Required Airport Security Clearance
  • Experience with Net Zero Carbon programs and sustainability initiatives
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems and regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to evaluate technical data, identify trends, and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and database-driven analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical information for diverse audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental plans and policies, including the Environmental Management Plan, ESG Plan, and Environmental Policy.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and implementation of the Glycol Management Plan.
  • Maintain compliance with Ministry of Environment Certificate of Approval requirements, including stormwater management and water sampling.
  • Support environmental reviews for Facility Alteration Permits (FAPs) and City of Hamilton development applications.
  • Complete monthly operational updates and forecast expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to stormwater, glycol mitigation, and wastewater.
  • Manage stormwater programs, including monitoring, sampling, and emergency response.
  • Oversee tank cleaning, pond maintenance, and flow meter management.
  • Conduct internal audits and prepare Environmental Performance Reports.
  • Maintain readiness to respond to environmental emergencies and report spills as required.
  • Monitor air quality and recommend improvements.
  • Manage odour monitoring programs and respond to community or City of Hamilton concerns.
  • Act as the primary contact for environmental issues with MECP, NPCA, Hamilton Conservation Authority, and the City of Hamilton.
  • Attend City meetings related to overstrength and sanitary surcharge permits.
  • Prepare annual compliance reports for the Ministry and City of Hamilton.
  • Build strong relationships with government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Support Hamilton International’s sustainability program, including data collection and carbon accreditation.
  • Lead initiatives that reduce environmental impact and support Net Zero Carbon by 2030.
  • Analyze water usage and glycol usage to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in developing waste management programs, including recycling, hazardous waste handling, and international waste processes.
  • Support programs with community impact, including Noise Management and Wildlife Management.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the Glycol Management Plan and related procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required to support environmental and sustainability objectives.
