Cornerstone Programs, funded by the NYC Dept. of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), are located in NYCHA community centers throughout New York City and provide academic and recreational opportunities for children, teens, and adults. NIA is seeking a Cornerstone Director to manage a community center located in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The center offers services every weekday from 10:00am to 10:00pm, Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The center operates on school holidays and is open for extended hours in the summer from 8:00am through 11:00pm, 7 days a week. The Cornerstone Director is the lead on-site supervisor of the Cornerstone program, responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the site, including staff supervision, facility management, scheduling and programming, administrative tasks, and stakeholder relationships. The position of Cornerstone Director is a critical, visible position requiring exceptional leadership, strong management experience, and a successful track record of working with government contracts and nonprofit organizations providing social services. The Director should be highly flexible in dealing with the challenges of program management and working to meet the needs of the community with compassion and innovation. The Director should have experience with community-based services for youth, children, and/or families. The Director should have proven ability to manage staff professionally and interact with the community using a strengths-based approach. They must be a hands-on strategic thinker, a planner and problem solver. Excellent communication skills are critical. The Director must be comfortable communicating with participants from the community, and equally comfortable in communicating with staff, organization leadership, funders, and community officials.
