About The Position

The Program Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing the mission, vision and goals of the C.D. Mote, Jr. Incentive Awards Program (IAP). Reporting to the Assistant Director, and working collaboratively with the IAP team, the Program Coordinator facilitates programming, communication and student services. Responsibilities of this position include recruiting in high schools, supporting selection, providing professional and personal advising to students, managing the program’s tutoring component, overseeing student committees, coordinating office communications, and other duties as assigned to ensure a supportive and enriching experience for all IAP students and seamless execution of programmatic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of professional program, outreach, or event coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of outreach and marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems such as filing and record-keeping.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • working experience in higher education, specifically at UMD
  • Experience in academic advising, counseling, student activities, social work, and/or student affairs
  • Experience working with first-generation, low-income, underrepresented students

  • Flexibility with work hours, some evening and weekend hours will be required

Responsibilities

  • Manages outreach initiatives in assigned geographic regions, using knowledge about these areas to support prospective students and engage with high school counselors.
  • Delivers IAP presentations at high schools in geographic areas.
  • Assesses and executes changes to outreach initiatives.
  • Supports other recruitment efforts, as identified.
  • Manages the online application system and processes all incoming applications and supporting documents.
  • Provides strategic, progressive and one-on-one advising to a caseload of students and identifies interventions and wraparound services to improve academic outcomes and support students holistically.
  • Offers career preparatory strategies to enhance readiness for students’ chosen professional paths.
  • Strategizes to support students through times of decision-making and transitions.
  • Tracks IAP scholars’ program requirement completion and satisfactory academic progress.
  • Identifies, hires and supports tutors; establishes semester schedule; advertises and recruits tutees; coordinates tutor payment with UGST’s business office.
  • Assesses tutors and program consistently, recommending changes based on feedback.
  • Leads the creation, oversight and updates of an alumni database.
  • Directs student committees, communicating effectively, providing guidance on viable programming and ensuring quality execution of events.
  • Manage office and programmatic supplies inventory.
  • Support all IAP programs and events (Summer Discovery, Fall Welcome, retreats, community meetings, Gratitude & Impact Dinner, Mentor Mixer, etc.).
  • Collaborates with UGST’s communication office to carry out program website updates.
  • Produces content for various program communications (IAP Insider, family communications; student progress).
  • Direct the social media committee’s engagement on social media platforms and leads engagement when students are on break.
  • Develops Giving Day content and manages pre-event, day-of and day-after communications.
  • Coordinates correspondence to prospective students.
  • Co-produces annual InTouch, the IAP newsletter.
  • Manages the office’s digital signage, creating content to share programmatic information.
  • Supports communication and outreach initiatives as needed.
