About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, will be responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of all parks and recreation athletic programs. Duties will include daily operational oversite as well as direct supervision of youth sports personnel.

Requirements

  • Strategic ability to develop, enhance, and implement existing and new athletic programs.
  • Extensive Knowledge of multiple sports rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Through knowledge of athletic facility dimensions and operations.
  • Ability to apply situational judgement to the decision making process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Parks & Recreation software programs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to operate within a departmental budget.
  • Extensive knowledge of sports equipment and apparel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with the ability to work across all levels of city officials, employees, agencies, organizations, and the general public.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, that includes nights, weekends, and holiday, which is an essential requirement of this position.
  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application of modern principles, methods, practices, and equipment related to parks management and public recreational programs, or related fields.
  • Must have valid and current driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in parks and recreation, business administration, public administration, accounting, or similar field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating, implementing, and managing youth sports programs, including, but not limited to, scheduling, team assignments, and equipment inventory.
  • Assist maintenance staff with athletic facilities preparation for sporting events.
  • Responsible for training, scheduling, and supervising seasonal athletic staff, including, but not limited to, umpires, scorekeepers, and official.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and training of volunteer coaches.
  • Required to interact with parents, coaches, and the general public, and respond to inquiries within a timely manner.
  • Assist with facility rental request and agreements.
  • Manages equipment inventory and makes purchasing recommendations within departmental budget guidelines.
  • Assist staff with athletic fundraising programs as needed.
  • In absence of staff, will be required to umpire and officiate sporting events as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
