About The Position

This candidate will work directly with Drs. Lindsay Squeglia, Kathryn Gex, Anna Kirkland, and Lindsay Meredith as a Program Development & Training Specialist with the Youth Collaborative at the Medical University of South Carolina. The candidate’s main responsibility will be to support the curriculum development, program evaluation, and program implementation of our youth programs. This includes all Youth Collaborative outreach, education, and workforce development programs. Current examples include: Just Say Know (a neuroscience-based substance use prevention program) and the Teen Science Ambassador/Biomedical Science Education Program (workforce development programs for high school students). This position requires a dynamic individual with strong communication skills, teaching and/or curriculum development experience, a creative mindset, and a passion for promoting positive youth development. After-hours and weekend work is required, depending on community outreach event schedules. Travel around the local Charleston area is also required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with adolescents and young adults.
  • At least 5 years professional experience working as an instructional designer and at least 2 years working in higher education, public health, or a research focused environment is preferred.
  • Experience working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) in research and higher education environments to design courses for in-person, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Experience with graphic design or video editing tools.
  • Knowledge of fundamental instructional, multimedia, electronic learning (eLearning), and graphic design principles.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and communicate complex information.
  • Ability to independently plan and manage instructional design projects.
  • Must be organized, responsive, team-oriented, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, sponsors, health care professionals, teachers, and community members.
  • Experience designing courses within a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including proofreading and producing content free of errors in spelling and grammar.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, promote, integrate, and support MUSC Youth Collaborative Programs
  • Create and maintain instructional content and reference guides to support the integration and delivery of programs.
  • Oversee and manage school engagement, community outreach, promotion, education initiatives, and recruitment for programs.
  • Develop interactive and engaging presentations to showcase the programs of the Youth Collaborative.
  • Solicit input and feedback from instructors, community members, school contacts, and students on the direction of the programs.
  • Assist in data collection and development of program evaluation surveys, curriculum surveys, and establish and lead focus groups to support program growth.
  • Advise and provide creative and appropriate solutions to study team members based on their specific instructional goals.
  • Monitor and incorporate ongoing developments in the research of adolescent substance use and mental health and maintain a high level of instructional design.
  • Organize trainings on new presentations, programs, systems, and technologies as needed, ensuring facilitators are fully prepared to deliver program with fidelity.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive training curriculum and materials, including facilitator guides, instructional resources, and hands-on practice opportunities tailored to the program content.
  • Coach and mentor instructors on effective facilitation techniques, age-appropriate communication strategies, and best practices for engaging audiences.
  • Conduct observations and assessments of program delivery to ensure quality assurance and adherence to established program standards and educational best practices.
  • Track facilitator progress and training outcomes, maintaining records and reporting findings to program leadership to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Prioritize regular content reviews and updates.
  • Participate in reviews of program evaluations for revision and refinement.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing of all program materials before the course is made available to students and community members.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans for the Just Say Know Program and other programs within the Youth Collaborative, aligning with organizational goals and initiatives while following MUSC IRB policies.
  • Collaborate with team members and partnering teams to identify key messages, target audiences, and communication channels for program and outreach efforts.
  • Create and curate compelling content, including social media posts, press releases, articles, blog posts, and multimedia materials, to effectively communicate the team’s impact and accomplishments.
  • Plan and prepare calendar for consistent engagement.
  • Develop promotional materials for physical and social spaces, including maintaining the program websites.
  • Establish and maintain contacts and relationships with community organizations in South Carolina.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure event success and maximum attendance.
  • Familiarize self with the inclusion and exclusion criteria of all Youth Collaborative research studies to properly target desired demographics.
  • Maintain updated and ongoing contact list of all program contacts and vendors.
  • Lead and organize program meetings.
  • Prepare reports and provide updates on project progress.
  • Work closely with study team members, instructors and others (in person and remotely) to design, develop, and support high-quality online, hybrid, and face-to-face programs.
  • Provide consultation and advice to study team members and instructors on revisions and updates to program content based on feedback and ever-evolving best practices.
  • Identify, research, and cultivate relationships with philanthropic organizations, foundations, and potential donors whose missions align with the Youth Collaborative's goals.
  • Assist in the development and submission of grant proposals, sponsorship requests, and donor outreach materials to support existing and new educational and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate with MUSC’s development office and external partners to strategize funding opportunities, build donor pipelines, and maintain accurate records of donor communications.
  • Represent the Youth Collaborative at fundraising-related events, conferences, and networking opportunities to increase visibility and philanthropic engagement.
  • Contribute to the creation of annual impact reports, newsletters, and donor updates to communicate the Youth Collaborative’s reach and research progress.
  • Support the development of sponsorship packages and naming opportunities for signature programs and events.
  • Develop accessible templates for educational resources.
  • Assist with curriculum administration for existing and developing courses.
  • Prepare and update all documents and reports required for the annual Research Performance Progress Report and other reports when requested.
  • Coordinate purchasing, vendor contracts, and reimbursement with business office when necessary.
