About The Position

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the design, development, organization, promotion, implementation and evaluation of one or more specific programs within Langara College Continuing Studies (CS). Responsibilities include identifying learning needs of students, analysing and utilizing market trends, seeking input from external content experts and relevant internal sources; recruiting and selecting instructors and other pertinent personnel, and inputting course and instructor data into the College computer system. The Program Coordinator is accountable for scheduling of program offerings, optimal enrolments, cost recovery plus revenue generation and adherence to approved Continuing Studies operational procedures and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted full registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an LPN, RN, or RPN
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners, evidenced by one of the following: Completion of a Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) or equivalent, or Previous teaching experience with satisfactory references and positive teaching or student evaluations
  • Minimum two years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1,400 hours)
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health care system and interdisciplinary team roles
  • Experience working with older adults with complex health needs
  • Experience or orientation in home support, assisted living, or multi-level/complex care settings
  • Completion of Indigenous cultural safety and humility training (e.g., San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or equivalent)
  • Completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course (LearningHub)
  • Four (4) years work experience related to program and/or project coordination; plus 3 years work experience related specifically to the content area.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including advanced word processing, spreadsheet and database management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in web and print publishing software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program/course development, scheduling, market characteristics and supervision and evaluation practices.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary adult education principles.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to lead in a dynamic, market driven environment.
  • Management and leadership skills to direct a team to meet organizational goals, including strong skills in supervision, training, and discipline.
  • Ability to develop and implement new strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to monitor a budget.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous instructor experience in health or human services education
  • Post-secondary education in health, human services, or adult education
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education or Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate discipline from an accredited university or equivalent.
  • Specialized training in area of program area for which the position is responsible.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, develops, designs, promotes, implements, and evaluates one or more specific programs within Continuing Studies.
  • Manages the recruitment, orientation, supervision, and development of CS staff.
  • Provides information and resources to current and prospective students, faculty, and the general public regarding the specific program offered.
  • Prepares and manages program budget for specific program area(s) according to established policy and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge and conducts research on current trends and developments on specific program area(s).
  • Represents the College at various internal and external meetings, presentations, and participates in activities associated with the promotion of the Continuing Studies department at the College.
  • Performs routine data entry, prepares/collects/compiles reports, and maintains records/documents as required.
  • Performs other duties/projects as required.
