About The Position

This position plays a vital role in Student Services by supporting the mission of Skagit Valley College through programmatic and academic support for students in Basic Education for Adults (BEdA), including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), High School Completion, GED, and Open Doors pathways. The position supports student engagement and retention by coordinating communications, collecting required documentation, assisting with registration, maintaining attendance and compliance records, coordinating instructional materials and program events, and connecting students with campus and community resources. In partnership with faculty, Student Services, and instructional staff, the position helps create a welcoming, student-centered environment that promotes student success. The position also provides direct academic support by facilitating tutoring and study sessions, assisting students with college and online learning technologies, strengthening academic skills, and helping students overcome barriers to persistence and achievement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience working with multicultural or low-income students
  • Experience using Microsoft platforms to track information

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Psychology, Human Services, Social Services, Education, or related field
  • Experience assisting with projects and tracking mechanisms
  • Prior experience working in a community college environment, particularly Student Services
  • Experience with ctcLink and TargetX systems, or similar CRM platform experience
  • Bilingual – English & Spanish, English & Russian, or English & Ukrainian

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Open Doors Program support sessions for students in high school subject areas, such as English Language Acquisition, Mathematics, Science, Arts, and GED Prep.
  • Support students in activating and navigating platforms, such as Canvas, student emails, GED prep, etc.
  • Foster an environment where students can develop personalized study strategies and approaches, offering support and resources.
  • Fill in learning techniques or knowledge gaps to improve students' academic performance.
  • Coordinate communication with prospective and current BEdA students to collect required documents (e.g., release forms, transcripts) and schedule placement or testing appointments in collaboration with Student Services.
  • Support the planning and delivery of quarterly communications, assessments, advising appointments, and retention outreach for BEdA students.
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of New Student Registrations, Graduation Celebrations, Commencement, and other campus-wide events that promote student belonging and success.
  • Partner with faculty, Student Services, and instructional staff to improve student experience and increase operational efficiency.
  • Provide warm handoffs and referrals to college Student Services offices (e.g., Financial Aid, Disability Access Services, Counseling, TRIO) and community-based agencies as needed.
  • Assist with class registration for returning BEdA students, ensuring timely enrollment and resolution of barriers.
  • Coordinate the purchasing of instructional materials, supplies, and resources to support program operations.
  • Assist with the completion, tracking, and documentation of all attendance for Open Doors students for compliance with OSPI and the contracted school districts. This includes students in any of the four pathways GED, High School Completion, College, and Career (by communicating with their instructors for attendance tracking).
  • Create and maintain fillable attendance sheets for BEDA faculty use and reach out to college professors for student attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned related to BEdA student success and engagement.
