The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is a large agency ($2 billion) dedicated to designing and delivering high-quality human services to help Virginians achieve safety, independence, and overall well-being. The Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) manages a significant caseload, ensuring child support payments reach families across the Commonwealth. DCSE's mission is to promote strong, self-reliant families by providing child support enforcement services, including locating noncustodial parents, establishing and enforcing orders, and collecting and distributing child support. The Program Consultant – Safety Navigator is a key role within DCSE, serving as the lead functional specialist for child support cases involving domestic violence (DV), safety risks, and heightened confidentiality. This position is crucial for ensuring that survivors of domestic violence can safely access and maintain child support services, thereby supporting family stability and well-being. The role involves advanced case management on complex DV-impacted cases, utilizing specialized knowledge of safety protocols, protective orders, enforcement considerations, and trauma-informed practices. The position analyzes case circumstances, determines appropriate administrative or judicial actions, and ensures compliance with federal and state requirements. It also provides consultation to district teams, reviews documentation, conducts compliance reviews, and acts as a resource for safety-related questions. The role may also involve sensitive case preparation, coordination with courts and community partners, and influencing non-custodial parents toward compliance when safety factors are present. This is a full-time, restricted federal grant-funded position with an anticipated expiration date of 8/31/2027, contingent upon the availability of grant funds.
