About The Position

Meals on Wheels People is seeking a dependable, proactive, and organized On Call Program Assistant for its Meals 4 Kids team. The role supports meal preparation, packaging, and delivery; volunteer training and scheduling; packing, pickup, and delivery activities; and accurate recordkeeping for program participants and volunteers. The assistant also completes administrative tasks as assigned and provides customer service in a client-facing role. The work involves frequent interaction with diverse populations and takes place in a fast-paced team environment. The position is on call and based at Meals 4 Kids in Portland, Oregon. The listed pay is $17.00–$18.00 per hour. Candidates who pass a fluency exam in a valued language may qualify for an additional $1 per hour. A valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and transportation are required. Applicants must successfully pass pre-employment screening.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Food Handler’s Certification or ability to obtain it within two weeks.
Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and transportation.
Ability to work with and manage volunteers.
Strong organizational, record-keeping, time-management, and multitasking skills, including setting priorities and adapting to last-minute changes.
Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with diverse populations, including minorities, low-income individuals, and people with disabilities.
Ability to repetitively move 35 pounds and routinely move coolers and cooler bags from different locations and heights; ability to ascend stairs and move around city sidewalks.
Ability to quickly learn new computer programs.
Must successfully pass Meals on Wheels People pre-employment screening.
Any satisfactory combination of experience, training, and/or education that ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the stated qualifications.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in English/Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Asian, or African languages; candidates who pass a fluency exam in one of these languages qualify for an additional $1 per hour.
Experience with client data management systems.

Responsibilities
