The Department of Chemistry at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position as Professor of the Practice. The successful candidate will provide strategic and academic leadership for the Department’s Master’s programs while also playing a central role in preparing students for careers in the chemical sciences by connecting rigorous academic training with the skills and experiences needed for success in industrial, academic, and other professional settings. This role focuses on leadership of the Department’s Master’s programs, graduate education, mentorship and career development for our students, and building connections between the Department, industry and other external partners. Through combined leadership, teaching, mentoring, and external-engagement responsibilities, the Professor of the Practice will play a critical role in the Tufts Chemistry Department. They will shape program strategy, curriculum, admissions, student progress and advising, professional development, program visibility, and recruitment. They will cultivate and sustain relationships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, and other external partners and develop and coordinate external work experiences. They will also contribute coursework that complements the Department’s upper-level and graduate curriculum and draws upon the candidate’s expertise, which may include modern research methods, professional skills, data analysis and interpretation, scientific communication, and chemical entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will be expected to identify opportunities for programmatic growth and innovation across all of these responsibilities.
