About The Position

The University of Alabama School of Leadership and Policy invites applications for one or more Professor of Practice positions in Public Policy or Organizational Leadership, beginning August 2027. These renewable-contract appointments are for experienced professionals with distinguished careers outside academia who want to prepare the next generation. Professors of Practice provide practice-oriented teaching that complements the work of tenure-track and renewable-contract faculty. Appointments are made only at the rank of full professor and do not carry a promotion path. Research is not a condition of appointment. In addition to teaching, faculty support students and develop the school's relationships with organizations that host and hire them. Depending on school needs and faculty strengths, work may include career advising and mentoring, supervising internships, developing experiential-learning programs and courses, identifying internship sites, recruiting community organizations as capstone clients, and connecting students with employers. Organizational Leadership assignments may also include teaching in executive leadership programs. The school is being established as a new college-level unit, offering faculty the opportunity to help build its curriculum and programs. Appointments are for three-year terms and are renewable. Reappointment depends on documented meritorious performance of assigned duties, satisfactory service to the school, continued need, and continued availability of funding. The University offers a competitive salary and relocation assistance.
