About The Position

The Department of Political Science in the University of Miami’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks a tenure-track or tenure-eligible faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The appointment begins August 15, 2027. The successful candidate will be a political scientist or policy scholar whose research focuses on artificial intelligence and politics, public policy, governance, or related topics. The department is particularly interested in research on AI’s political and policy implications—including government uses of AI related to security, democratic governance, and the public good—and sophisticated use of AI-based research methods. The faculty member will help advance the University’s leadership in this growing area and complement strengths in Data Science, Democracy, Public Administration, and Public Policy. The faculty member will maintain an active research agenda, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University. The successful candidate will expand the College’s AI research capacity, create opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute distinctive expertise that supports the curriculum and strategic teaching and research needs. The role also includes contributing to the department’s methods curriculum through data and computational literacy training and regular courses in research design, quantitative methods, statistical analysis, and related methodological approaches. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science or a cognate field by the appointment start date. Applicants should submit a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, research statement, and teaching statement focused on contributions to the undergraduate political science and public administration majors through teaching and mentoring. Three reference letters should be sent directly to the search chair.
