About The Position

The Department of Political Science in the University of Miami’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks a tenure-track or tenure-eligible faculty member at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The appointment begins August 15, 2027. The department seeks a political scientist or policy scholar focused on artificial intelligence and politics, public policy, governance, or related topics. The successful candidate will study AI’s political and policy implications—including government use of AI in security, democratic governance, and the public good—and use AI-based methods in their research. The role offers an opportunity to help advance the University’s leadership in this growing area of scholarship and political science. Candidates at all career stages are welcome, including those with exceptional promise or established national prominence. The department is particularly interested in work complementary to University strengths in Data Science, Democracy, Public Administration, and Public Policy. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University. They will strengthen the College’s research capacity in AI, develop interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities, and bring distinctive expertise that complements faculty strengths and addresses strategic teaching and research needs. The candidate will contribute to the department’s methods curriculum by providing data and computational literacy training and regularly teaching research design, quantitative methods, statistical analysis, and related methodological approaches to undergraduate majors and graduate students. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Political Science or a cognate field by the appointment start date. Applications are submitted online through the University’s Careers Website. Applicants should upload a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, research statement, and teaching statement focused on contributions to the undergraduate political science and public administration majors through teaching and mentoring. Three reference letters should be sent directly to the search chair. Applications received by November 30, 2026, receive full consideration; applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.
