The University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery seeks a board-eligible or board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon to provide patient care for orthopaedic hand and upper-extremity conditions. This is a tenure-eligible, open-rank professor position starting in August 2027. Salary and tenure status depend on qualifications, and the position will remain open until filled. The successful candidate will join 30 orthopaedic faculty members who share emergency orthopaedic call at a Level 1 quaternary-care trauma center and assist with initial management of emergent musculoskeletal conditions outside the hand-surgery specialty as needed. The candidate will also share hand call with other hand and upper-extremity faculty. The division includes four surgeons, three physician assistants, and two hand fellows, and works collaboratively with two plastic surgery hand surgeons in the UVA Hand Center. The candidate will see patients at the newly constructed UVA Orthopaedic Center Ivy Road and may also see patients at local outreach clinics. The 200,000-square-foot facility houses orthopaedic subspecialties, physical therapy, outpatient operating rooms, conference space, prosthetics and orthotics, and a hand surgery clinic. The candidate will perform inpatient and outpatient surgery within the UVA Health System. Training and exposure to a broad range of surgical techniques is preferred, particularly in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery and microvascular surgery.
