About The Position

The University of Alabama School of Law seeks qualified applicants for the position of Professor of Legal Writing at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This is a 9-month position on a contract basis with an initial three-year term, with subsequent three-year terms presumptively renewable. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the growth, development, and improvement of the legal writing program. Responsibilities include teaching two sections in the first-year legal writing program and developing and teaching an upper-level writing or drafting course twice during the contract period. If appointed as Director of the Legal Writing Program or Director of the Moot Court Program, the candidate may have a reduced teaching load and additional responsibilities. The Director of Legal Writing guides program development and supports faculty, while the Director of Moot Court oversees the 2L Moot Court Competition and advises the Moot Court Board.

Requirements

Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Strong academic record.
Demonstrated effective legal writing skills.
Admitted to and in good standing with a state bar.
Applying at the Associate or Full Professor rank.

Responsibilities

Teach two sections in the first-year legal writing program.
Develop an upper-level writing or drafting course and teach it twice during the three-year contract.
Guide the development and improvement of the legal writing program (if appointed Director of Legal Writing).
Support the legal writing faculty (if appointed Director of Legal Writing).
Oversee the coordination and execution of the Alabama Law 2L Moot Court Competition (if appointed Director of Moot Court).
Serve as the primary advisor to the Moot Court Board (if appointed Director of Moot Court).
