Professors provide classroom instruction and college service and are responsible to department chairs and instructional deans. General Expectations of all TJC Faculty include exhibiting a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, maintaining current and comprehensive knowledge and experience in the teaching field and assigned teaching discipline, and creating a classroom environment reflecting professionalism, equity, respect, and trust. Faculty are expected to adhere to college policies, abide by Employee Standards of Conduct, perform job duties as assigned, and stay current with and follow departmental and college policies. They must also complete required compliance trainings and stay current on professional development hours. Responsibilities to the Student include exhibiting a commitment to student success by designing appropriate instructional activities, embedding interactive learning, facilitating student learning, aligning learning opportunities with outcomes, sequencing learning opportunities, integrating workplace professional skillsets, and motivating students. They must also meet classes as scheduled, maximize use of class time, maintain scheduled office hours, and follow attendance and office hour requirements for online and hybrid classes. Responsibilities to the Department include following prescribed course syllabi and adopted textbooks, informing students of learning outcomes and policies, demonstrating initiative and cooperative support, and attending department meetings. Responsibilities to the College include teaching in the modality chosen by the College, maintaining accurate records, modeling professional conduct, participating in required convocation and graduation events, maintaining required memberships/licensures/certifications, assuming duties over and above assigned classes and office hours, and demonstrating commitment to the college through active participation in TJC-sponsored events. Responsibilities to the Community include networking with community members to promote the TJC program and its students, and exhibiting conduct that reflects the mission, vision, and values of the institution and the community.
