Under the direction of the Chair, Community Studies, the Professor is responsible for facilitating and guiding learning and providing an effective learning environment for all students. This role encompasses the design, revision, and updating of courses, which involves consulting with program and course administrators, faculty members, advisory committees, potential employers, and students to define, evaluate, and validate learning outcomes. The Professor will also specify and approve learning approaches and necessary resources, incorporating educational technologies to meet the needs of 21st Century students, and participate in curriculum review and professional development during non-teaching periods. Key responsibilities also include the teaching of assigned courses, delivering regularly scheduled instruction in various terms and departments, ensuring student awareness of course outcomes and evaluation, and providing tutoring and academic advising. The Professor is expected to create a learning environment conducive to student success, evaluate student progress, and assume overall assessment responsibility. Furthermore, the role involves providing academic leadership, offering guidance to students and instructors, participating in committees and meetings, liaising with community members, and engaging in program and College promotion. Maintaining currency in the field of study, awareness of emerging trends in higher education, and modeling the College values of Caring, Learning, Integrity, and Respect are also essential.
