About The Position

The Professional Writing Senior Specialist serves as an integral member of the Marketing & Communications team delivering content in support of the firm’s go-to-market strategies. This individual contributor role works as a member of the Content Center of Excellence, collaborating with the Senior Manager, Content Governance Strategy and Production, industry and business line marketers, subject matter experts (SMEs) and other stakeholders to create and refine professional services content. The role applies content best practices, creative judgement, and knowledge of BDO’s business, stakeholders, and professional services to produce clear, compelling business and technical content aligned with BDO’s corporate posture and point of view. The individual in this role will work independently and collaboratively with members of the Marketing & Communications team as well as the firm’s SMEs to distill concepts, points of view and ideas into engaging, easy-to-understand and impactful storylines and insights resulting in compelling content to engage stakeholders and support the firm’s brand and growth strategies. The role will combine independent knowledge of business issues and topics, with internal and external research and resources, including SME content capture interviews, to understand complex challenges and how they impact our business and our clients. The successful candidate understands technical topics and can speak to the big picture in a clear, compelling, and actionable way, bringing pride, creative storytelling, efficiency, excellent grammar, and a strong understanding of AP style.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree AND five (5) or more years of experience in journalism and professional services or business to business (B2B) communications, required
  • Advanced experience and understanding of AP style and ability to edit and write for a variety of channels including speech, video, podcast, professional publications, web, etc., required
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of English, spelling, grammar and punctuation; and of legal and ethical aspects of journalism, required
  • Experience distilling complex technical business topics into engaging storylines, required
  • Experience with corporate writing, editing, proofreading, presentations, and research, required
  • Professional services experience, required
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Business, or Communications, preferred
  • Familiarity with project management systems (e.g., Airtable), preferred
  • Knowledge of OneDrive, preferred
  • Experience using large language model (LLM) platforms to support content development, editing, and prompt creation, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Independently writes/edits content on-time and within budget while meeting/exceeding content quality expectations – content types include thought leadership, articles, case studies, newsletters, bylines, whitepapers, and reports, etc.
  • Makes recommendations on content types, storytelling capacity, content positioning, messaging and collaborative potential
  • Maintains project tracking and reporting using defined project management tools, including Airtable to accomplish goals within defined timeframes
  • Stays current on emerging content strategy and production approaches and provides informed recommendations, applying best practices grounded in industry trends, regulatory considerations, and stakeholder needs
  • Recommends and provides proofreading support for various content types
  • Determines and seeks out the appropriate resources to understand technical concepts to prepare for, participate and lead content capture calls with marketers and SMEs
  • Considers BDO’s external positioning and public reputation and makes recommendations to align content accordingly.
  • Understands and champions BDO’s content development, best practices, style guidelines, process improvements and submission process within the Content Center of Excellence
  • Helps ensure adherence to BDO content best practices and BDO’s writing style guide
  • Leverages applicable BDO content briefs to inform content creation efforts
  • Conducts thorough research and SME content capture interviews
  • Collaborates independently with marketers and subject matter experts to understand priority buyer challenges and pain points to develop creative briefs
  • Adjusts writing style to accommodate diverse industries and services
  • Applies SEO and GEO principles to maximize topic exposure
  • Other duties as required
