About The Position

The Scott Family Amazeum is the driver and leading resource of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) and hands-on learning in the region. The Amazeum seeks a Professional Learning Specialist to advance the museum’s growing portfolio of professional learning opportunities directed toward professional educators from all educational settings including k-12 schools, early childhood centers, and out-of-school time organizations. The Professional Learning Specialist is a vital team member who develops and delivers high-quality, hands-on professional development offerings such as workshops, coaching, events and more. As a key representative of the Amazeum to the educator community, the Professional Learning Specialist will provide compassionate educator relationship building, thoughtful facilitation, and engaging learning experiences. This position reports to the Professional Learning Initiatives Manager and works closely with the Early Learner Initiatives Manager.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in Education or in one or more of the STEAM disciplines; near completion OR 3+ years relevant work experience
  • 2+ years experience working with educators in a leadership role
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience leading hands-on STEAM programming for early childhood, elementary or middle-school aged youth that integrates science, technology, engineering, math, and/or art
  • Deep understanding of science, STEAM disciplines, playful learning, and constructivist theory of learning
  • Strong verbal communication, teaching, and facilitation skills with emphasis on public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences in an engaging and compelling fashion; adaptable to developmental levels and multiple learning styles
  • Commitment to the Amazeum’s core purpose
  • Proficient in the use of Google Workspace applications including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrate curiosity and passion for learning, with an excitement for new challenges
  • Proven ability to work independently as self-directed learner as well as within a team environment
  • Strategic and creative thinker and able to problem solve effectively under pressure
  • Intentional to build community and promote equity across all areas of focus

  • Ability to actively facilitate and lead hands-on professional learning sessions for extended periods, including standing and moving throughout learning spaces for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis; occasional lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, crouch, and set up or reset learning environments, including arranging tables, chairs, and instructional materials.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate tools, supplies, technology equipment, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups in person and virtually.
  • Ability to travel locally to partner schools and community sites as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, active, and occasionally noisy museum and learning environment.
  • Visual ability to read printed materials and digital screens and to observe participant engagement and safety during programming.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively develops professional development workshops and coaching sessions including instructional and operational design
  • Prepares, facilitates, and leads professional development workshops and coaching sessions
  • Models best practices of facilitation and hands-on learning while ensuring curriculum and activities adhere to the Amazeum’s education guiding principles
  • Collaborates with the Professional Learning Initiatives Manager, Early Learning Initiatives Manager to implement rigorous science, STEAM activities, research-based practices, playful learning and maker skills into professional development offerings
  • Develops and nurtures connections and relationships with educators to serve as a resource
  • Supports the evolving work and impact of the NWA Learning Ecosystem with a collective goal of transforming learning as a region
  • Collaborates and supports the Learning + Design Group projects as needed.
  • Supports the organization, management, and maintenance of the inventory of supplies, equipment, and tools required for implementing professional development offerings
  • Supports the preparation of materials for use during workshops and/or take home materials for educators
  • Ensures a safe, welcoming and hygienic learning space; reset learning spaces between programs
  • Implements evaluation measures for professional development experiences following Amazeum's evaluation methods and uses results to refine and improve experiences and teaching practice
  • Provides required documentation of professional development experiences, materials, curriculum and stories of impact.
  • Stays current with science, early childhood, STEAM, and maker-based learning research and advances; utilizes this information to enrich programming
  • Actively generates authentic ways to provide and model equitable, culturally relevant learning programs
  • Provides programming support for other educational programs and events, at the Amazeum and off site at community partner organizations as needed
  • Provides outstanding customer service in a fast-paced setting and act quickly in a challenging situation
