About The Position

Wilkes University is seeking a Professional Communications Teacher for its Upward Bound Program. This federally funded TRIO Program aims to support high school students in their journey towards higher education by assisting with career exploration and college preparation. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the academic component of the program, focusing on equipping a small group of high school students with essential professional communication skills. This includes instruction on formal language, college and workplace terminology, professional email etiquette, requesting letters of recommendation, and appropriate communication in academic and professional contexts. The goal is to foster student confidence and practical skills for success in college and future careers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business/Marketing, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the academic component of the Upward Bound Program.
  • Introduce high school students to a variety of professional communication skills.
  • Instruct students on using formal and professional language.
  • Teach common college and workplace terminology.
  • Guide students in writing professional emails.
  • Instruct students on requesting letters of recommendation.
