About The Position

This is a regular part-time teaching position for the course "Théories raciales et droit" (Racial Theories and Law), course code DRC4737, in the Civil Law Section for the 2027 Winter Semester. The course provides an introduction to issues of race and racism in Canadian and Quebec law, including the conceptualization of race, the role of law in racialization and the reproduction of social and racial inequalities, and the treatment of race and racial discrimination by the courts. It emphasizes a critical and multidisciplinary approach to these topics. The course is a 3-credit lecture-style class, taught in French, with an expected enrollment of 80 students, and is delivered in-person.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in issues of race and racism in Canadian and Quebec law.
  • Ability to conceptualize the notion of race.
  • Understanding of the role of law in the process of racialization and reproduction of social and racial inequalities.
  • Knowledge of how courts handle issues of race and racial discrimination.
  • Ability to apply a critical and multidisciplinary approach to questions of race and law.
  • Ability to deliver instruction in a lecture format.
  • Ability to teach in-person.
  • Passive competence in a second language (English).

Responsibilities

  • Teach the course "Théories raciales et droit" (DRC4737) during the 2027 Winter Semester.

  • Conduct classes in-person on Thursdays from 18:00 to 21:00.
