About The Position

The University of Ottawa's teacher education program is recruiting professors to mentor student teachers in elementary, middle, and high school. This role is part of a practical and reflective training process aimed at supporting the professional development of future teachers. The professor will provide pedagogical and emotional support, offer constructive feedback, implement effective remote supervision using digital tools, collaborate with school-based mentors, conduct observations and feedback sessions remotely, participate in mandatory information sessions, lead stage seminars, and assign the final grade for the practicum.

Requirements

• Master's degree in education
• Qualification in a field related to teaching in French-language schools in Ontario
• Recent experience in teaching or school administration at the primary/junior level
• Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum, the standards of practice for the teaching profession, and the code of ethics of the Ontario College of Teachers
• The university may consider equivalent experience or qualifications.
• Employees are required under provincial law to successfully complete all mandatory legislated training.

Responsibilities

• Offer pedagogical and emotional support to foster the progressive development of professional teaching skills through constructive, targeted feedback adapted to the intern's level.
• Implement effective remote supervision methods using appropriate digital tools, ensuring adherence to ethical principles and confidentiality.
• Actively support the school-based teacher mentor to ensure coherence and complementarity in the intern's supervision.
• Plan, conduct, and document observation sessions, as well as remote dyad and triad feedback meetings, using digital tools that facilitate reflective analysis.
• Participate in the mandatory information session on September 17, 2026 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.).
• Lead the stage seminars on the following dates: Monday, October 5 (section V02) - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, October 9 (sections V01, V03, V04, V05, V06) - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, November 18 - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday, November 12 - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday, December 10 - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Assign the summative grade for the practicum and enter it into the designated system no later than 10 days after the end of the practicum.
