About The Position

Perfetti Van Melle, a global leader in confectionery and chewing gum manufacturing, is seeking an enthusiastic Production Technician to join their team. This role is part of the Integrated Work Systems (IWS) framework, focusing on continuous improvement, employee ownership, problem-solving, and skill development to enhance operational efficiency and equipment understanding. The technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining packaging equipment, ensuring product quality, and contributing to team performance goals.

Requirements

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to work overtime hours above the normal schedule to meet customer demands.
Strong troubleshooting and problem analysis skills.
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, uniform, hairnet, beard net, and mask when required.
Ability to wear and use breathing protection devices as required.
Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
Ability to talk, hear, and smell.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to occasionally push/pull 350-pound carts with wheels.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Flexibility in learning and working in other job functions.

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor all packaging equipment efficiently and safely to maintain product flow.
Perform package integrity and quality checks, including metal detection, seal integrity, code date verification, and product weight/case counts.
Monitor and maintain correct product and case weights.
Handle scrap and waste from machines as necessary.
Troubleshoot equipment to ensure continuous operation.
Perform data entry into the computer.
Work in a safe and responsible manner, exercising caution to prevent accidents, injuries, or equipment damage.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including cleaning as part of shift hand-offs and weekly shutdowns/sanitation.
Operate floor scrubbers and other cleaning devices.
Adhere to all safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies and promote safe work practices.
Notify maintenance or supervisor when a line or piece of equipment is down and requires attention.
Perform other duties as assigned.
