About The Position

This position is responsible for supporting the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) production process. Key duties include cleaning and finishing graphite growth materials, loading and unloading zinc casting furnaces, and assisting operators with furnace disassembly and assembly. The role also involves general labor for cleaning and organizing production areas. A strong emphasis is placed on adhering to strict safety procedures, especially when handling highly toxic materials, and participating in Process Safety Management (PSM) and hazardous waste handling protocols. The company is committed to continuous improvement within the CVD department and requires participation in the site's Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools, equipment, and process systems.
  • Can follow detailed procedures and understand the importance of doing work safely and correctly every time.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to retain technical and safety-related information.
  • Comfortable working rotating shifts in an industrial environment.
  • Communicate well with teammates, supervisors, and support groups.
  • Take pride in learning a specialized role and becoming a qualified technician through training and experience.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, logging, and equipment interfaces.
  • Ability to stand or sit for up to 12 hours per shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to climb, bend, reach, push, pull, and work on ladders or mechanical lifts.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and safety equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements for required Emergency Response Team participation.
  • All employees must comply with site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards.
  • Pre-employment PFT and respirator physical.
  • Required Annual PFT and respirator physicals.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing, industrial, maintenance, or skilled trades experience is helpful but not required.
  • Have experience in manufacturing, maintenance, construction, utilities, automotive, skilled trades, military, or other hands-on roles.
  • This role is well suited for candidates who may not have direct industry experience but bring strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn.
  • You do not need prior experience with CVD systems or the materials used in this process.

Responsibilities

  • Graphite growth material cleaning and finishing for installation into CVD furnaces with repeatability, close attention to detail and following established operating procedures.
  • Loading and unloading of zinc casting furnace, casting material for use in CVD furnaces.
  • Operator support during disassembly and assembly of CVD growth furnaces for efficient preparation of CVD production runs.
  • General labor cleaning and organizing of production areas following assembly and closing of production furnaces.
  • Strictly adhere to established procedures, policies, and protocols to reduce the risk of accidental release or exposure to highly toxic materials.
  • Participate in the Process Safety Management (PSM) process to maintain compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) standards.
  • Learn and follow DEP standards for safe handling and storage of hazardous waste.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the CVD department.
  • Participate as a member of the Coherent Saxonburg Site Emergency Response Team (ERT), including completion of required training (such as 40-hour HAZWOPER) and ongoing refresher requirements.
