The Production Supervisor manages all equipment, materials, and human resources to ensure optimum performance. This role leads the entire shift's staff in applying all procedures and work instructions, ensuring maximum output in the categories of Safety, Quality, Production, Housekeeping, and Conduct. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring the daily production schedule is followed and production goals are met, as well as ensuring die setters complete mold changes according to the schedule. They provide a safe, healthy, and congenial working environment, respond to employee questions and needs, enforce company policies, schedule employees for tasks, and serve as the main communication channel between management and employees. This role also involves training employees, filling out evaluations, and holding monthly shift meetings. The Production Supervisor must maintain an acceptable level of part quality, respond to quality complaints, make necessary corrections, and ensure machine conditions are recorded and reacted to. They are responsible for maintaining efficient productivity levels, making adjustments to cycles and conditions, and reporting any problems that cannot be corrected. The supervisor must also submit cost savings ideas and ensure Process Engineers meet their cost-saving goals. Responsibilities include safely and efficiently changing molds, starting up presses, starting up or shutting down the plant, cleaning and lubricating molds, recording cycles accurately, performing minor machine troubleshooting and repairs, and scheduling/assisting in cleaning machinery. The role also involves performing basic quality checks in the absence of a shift inspector, assuming responsibilities of the Lead Technician when needed, reading articles to improve supervision and injection molding skills, and writing work orders for machinery repair. Employees are responsible for taking corrective action on non-conforming items. The role requires maintaining overall Shop 5S with a minimum score of 85% in the assigned area and participating in Kaizen events to implement improvements. The Production Supervisor directly supervises non-supervisory employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints. The Manufacturing Manager will resume responsibilities if this position becomes vacant. Environmental responsibilities include monitoring operator compliance with safety and other regulations, potentially functioning as a member of the Environmental Response Action Team, Fire brigade, and First Responder, and providing OJT training. The role ensures all internal and OSHA required safety procedures are followed and applies lean manufacturing methodologies for continuous improvement. Adherence to all company policies and procedures is required. The supervisor walks the floor with the prior supervisor/team leader for a smooth shift handoff, schedules overtime, and ensures HR has a copy. They ensure Die Setters have their line-up sheets and address any issues, and complete the Supervisor Verification Sheet. All Process Tech and Die Setter daily sheets must be completed and turned in daily.
