About The Position

The Production Manager manages the placement, execution and follow-up of manufacturing orders and by ensuring the timely delivery of quality, profitable goods. This role involves performing competitive research, evaluating the marketplace for manufacturing, fabrications, and construction trends, and identifying innovations. The Production Manager will also create an approved vendor matrix, assist in price negotiations, track production from samples to delivery, advise on vendor non-compliance, and coordinate customs classification. They will partner with Merchandising, Design, and Sales to develop products, ensure correct execution, and achieve margin goals, while setting expectations for timely delivery. The role requires enforcing production standards, attending fits, working with Product Development for on-time approvals, executing quality control initiatives, and troubleshooting quality and technical issues with factories and vendors. Additionally, the Production Manager will execute efforts in special garment development, enhancements, and modifications to designs and materials to maintain aesthetics and achieve financial goals. They will advise management on capacity planning and performance management, contribute to costing models, and allocate production across vendors. The role also involves partnering with customers, Sales, Merchandising, Operations, vendors, and factories to ensure adequate flow of goods, coordinating interoffice communication, performing special projects, and traveling to factories and international trade shows as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Creativity, technical capability and sensibility for merchandising/design
  • Knowledge of garment manufacturing, including construction, fabrication, trim and print techniques
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4 - 7 years experience in apparel production and sourcing; relevant experience in category
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, CAD and Mac computers

Responsibilities

  • Manage the placement, execution, and follow-up of manufacturing orders to ensure timely delivery of quality, profitable goods.
  • Perform competitive research and evaluate the marketplace for key trends in manufacturing, fabrications, and construction, identifying and reporting innovations.
  • Create an approved vendor matrix with costing and production capacity portfolio.
  • Assist in negotiations on pricing to ensure profitability, enter final buys, and track production from first samples to final deliveries.
  • Advise Sr. Manager and Director of non-compliance/claims chargebacks with vendors and coordinate customs classification with Imports.
  • Partner with Merchandising, Design, and Sales to develop product, ensure correct execution, and attain agreed-upon margin goals.
  • Set and articulate expectations and ensure timely delivery according to the development calendar.
  • Follow and enforce production standards and cohesiveness of brand across categories and vendors.
  • Attend all fits and work closely with Product Development to ensure on-time approvals.
  • Execute quality control initiatives, including QA analysis and solutions.
  • Troubleshoot quality and technical issues with factories, mills, vendors, and team(s).
  • Execute efforts in special garment development and enhancements and modifications to designs and materials.
  • Advise management on capacity planning and performance management by sourcing office, region, country, and vendor.
  • Contribute accurate information for costing models.
  • Advise Production Director on commitments to raw materials.
  • Allocate production across vendors and reserve production space.
  • Partner with customers, Sales, Merchandising, and Operations, as well as vendors and factories to ensure adequate flow of goods relative to orders and anticipated demand criteria.
  • Coordinate interoffice communication and follow-up with internal and external customers and contacts regarding production, including suppliers and vendors.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Travel to factories and international trade shows, where appropriate.
  • Contribute positively to team dynamic and manage up where necessary.
  • Attract, develop, and retain talent.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of individuals.
