About The Position

The Production Lead guides a group of employees toward organizational goals and serves as a link between senior management and team members. The role supports team development, training, task assignment, conflict resolution, and day-to-day operations, while mentoring employees to improve productivity and morale. The Production Lead uses lean tools such as Visual Management, Continuous Improvement, and Standard Work, monitors and improves processes, applies technical skills as needed, and recommends additional manpower to the Production Supervisor when required. The role translates company goals into actionable daily tasks, monitors KPIs and cell performance against takt-time requirements, and helps plan work so products are completed and indexed into the next cell on schedule. The Production Lead assigns and monitors work, provides technical or hands-on assistance, tracks labor variances, and supports employee training, performance reviews, onboarding, and development. The position also communicates status and issues to leadership, follows applicable Standard Work and completes required documentation, coordinates Continuous Improvement, and maintains 5S and cleanliness in assigned work areas.

Requirements

At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate expectations and summarize status and issues.
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills to balance administrative duties, operational flows, and team needs.
Demonstrated high-quality work, high productivity, and an action-oriented approach.
Ability to adjust to shifting priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
General computer skills.
Meet all requirements of Level II or III in a skill set.
Must not have received a written corrective action in the last 12 months.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Translate company goals into actionable daily tasks, monitor KPIs, and adjust strategies to keep work on track.
Understand task playbooks and takt-time requirements and assist the supervisor with directing and planning activities needed to index products into the next cell.
Assign tasks based on employees’ strengths, expertise, and development goals; monitor productivity and provide technical or hands-on assistance to meet scheduled index times.
Identify skill gaps, provide ongoing training, participate in yearly and mid-year performance reviews, and identify growth paths for team members.
Assist the Production Supervisor with developing and maintaining training programs and orienting new and transferred team members.
Observe and report each cell’s performance against takt time, including whether the product was indexed, whether it was complete, and how many minutes behind it was if incomplete.
Communicate variances between planned manpower hours and actual hours applied through playbook audits to the Production Supervisor.
Address minor operational roadblocks, mediate workplace conflicts, and promptly escalate issues requiring assistance.
Use shop orders, playbooks, red books, change orders, technical specifications, manuals, schematics, prints, instructions, and other order-related documents.
Provide concise project status updates to leadership, communicate roadblocks in a timely manner, and align the team around actionable tasks.
Follow applicable Standard Work and complete required documentation, including playbooks, visual management, red books, and training materials.
Conduct start-up meetings when the Production Supervisor is absent.
Work with the Production Supervisor and other departments to identify and resolve issues; locate tools, materials, and information to help employees meet work objectives.
Initiate long aids to eliminate root causes of issues.
Champion and coordinate Continuous Improvement activities for work areas.
Maintain 5S and overall cleanliness in assigned work areas.
Perform other Tech-level duties as required.
