About The Position

Valkyrie Enterprises seeks a Production Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama, to support the Missile Defense Agency’s Targets and Countermeasures team. The position is contingent upon prime contractor approval. The engineer verifies that critical missile flight hardware and propulsion systems are designed, fabricated, integrated, and tested in accordance with approved baseline standards and flight-worthiness requirements. This includes evaluating prime contractor engineering designs and manufacturing processes, conducting technical reviews, and applying mission assurance frameworks, particularly AIAA S-113 and related aerospace standards. The role covers design and build verification, standards compliance for ordnance and aerospace hardware, technical baseline and milestone reviews, nonconformance and root-cause analysis, hardware acceptance and test verification, and supplier coordination. The engineer reviews qualification and acceptance test procedures and results, may witness critical tests onsite, and leads supplier Integrated Product Team meetings to track deliverables, align schedules, and resolve technical issues. The position requires an active Secret clearance and the ability to maintain it. Travel is minimal, at 10% or less. Applicants who travel by domestic flight or access secure federal facilities or military bases must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical requirements include prolonged sitting or standing, computer work, moving between worksites, communicating to exchange information, and light work involving objects up to 20 pounds. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM field.
  • At least 7 years supporting missile defense or large-scale, complex Department of Defense programs.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and practical application of AIAA S-113 or closely related launch or flight vehicle criteria, such as AIAA S-114, SMC-S-016, TOR standards, or NASA-STD-8739/AFSPCMAN equivalents.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, engineering change orders (ECOs/ECPs), and manufacturing work instructions to verify build integrity.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, including the ability to defend engineering assessments to government program leadership and contractor teams.
  • Active Secret clearance and ability to maintain it.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree specialization in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience evaluating pyrotechnic devices, initiation systems, electro-explosive devices (EEDs), solid rocket motors, or high-reliability electromechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Audit prime contractor engineering designs, drawing packages, manufacturing processes, and assembly records to verify compliance with approved baseline specifications and flight-worthiness requirements.
  • Apply AIAA S-113 and related aerospace standards to assess ordnance, explosive devices, pyrotechnic separation mechanisms, pressure vessels, and mechanical and propulsion subsystems throughout design and production.
  • Participate in SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, and FRR technical baseline reviews, confirming objective evidence supports mission assurance criteria before integration and flight test.
  • Evaluate Material Review Board dispositions, deviations, and waivers.
  • Oversee Failure Review Boards to determine root causes and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Review and approve Qualification and Acceptance Test Procedures (QTPs/ATPs) and corresponding test results.
