About The Position

Valkyrie is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to provide engineering expertise in the design, development, integration, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems supporting U.S. Navy platforms in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop, evaluate, and improve mechanical designs, ensuring system compatibility and compliance with applicable technical specifications and engineering standards. The role supports electromechanical assemblies, equipment, and associated components for Naval applications. It includes developing and maintaining Bills of Materials and Technical Data Packages; creating 3D models, detailed drawings, and assembly configurations; participating in environmental qualification and engineering testing; and supporting prototype fabrication, assembly, and design changes. The engineer will coordinate across engineering disciplines and review designs for compliance with military specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements. The position requires an active DoD Secret Security Clearance and the ability to maintain clearance eligibility for access to military facilities, Naval shipyards, and private shipyards. The candidate must be willing and able to travel within and outside the continental United States for installation, field testing, integration, troubleshooting, and technical support. Work may take place in office, laboratory, industrial, or shipboard environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • At least six years of professional experience performing mechanical engineering design, development, or integration activities.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, preferably AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, including 3D modeling, engineering drawings, and assembly design.
  • Experience developing and maintaining BOMs, TDPs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ability to assess mechanical designs for material selection, manufacturing feasibility, cost efficiency, and product quality.
  • Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and engineering communication skills.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance and ability to maintain clearance.
  • Ability to maintain clearance eligibility for access to military facilities, Naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
  • Willingness and ability to support CONUS and OCONUS travel for system installation, field testing, integration, troubleshooting, and technical support.
  • If required for domestic air travel or access to secure federal facilities or military bases, ability to obtain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID, by the start of the position and maintain them.
  • Ability to work in an office, laboratory, industrial, or shipboard environment; lift and move materials within one-person lift guidelines; perform site surveys; access shipboard and laboratory workspaces; and carry a laptop computer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing mechanical engineering support for Department of Defense or U.S. Navy systems and equipment.
  • Familiarity with military environmental qualification standards, including applicable MIL-STD requirements.
  • Experience supporting mechanical systems throughout the product lifecycle, from initial design and prototype development through production and sustainment.
  • Previous experience providing technical leadership, engineering oversight, or mentorship to junior engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical engineering design and development for electromechanical assemblies, equipment, and associated components supporting Naval applications.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for component accuracy, material availability, manufacturing feasibility, and cost considerations.
  • Prepare and update Technical Data Packages (TDPs), including engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Use Autodesk Inventor and other CAD applications to create 3D models, detailed mechanical drawings, and assembly configurations.
  • Participate in environmental qualification and engineering testing to evaluate equipment performance under temperature, vibration, humidity, and other operating conditions.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering personnel to ensure component integration and system functionality.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing, and make design modifications to address technical deficiencies and improve system performance.
  • Review engineering designs for compliance with military specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements.
