About The Position

Valkyrie is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to provide engineering expertise in the design, development, integration, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems supporting U.S. Navy platforms. The role is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and involves collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop, evaluate, and improve mechanical designs while ensuring system compatibility and compliance with applicable technical specifications and engineering standards. The position supports electromechanical assemblies, equipment, and components for Naval applications. The engineer develops and maintains Bills of Materials (BOMs), prepares Technical Data Packages (TDPs), creates 3D models and mechanical drawings, and participates in environmental qualification and engineering testing. The role also supports prototype fabrication, assembly, system integration, design modifications, and review of designs for compliance with military specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements. The position requires an active DoD Secret Security Clearance and the ability to maintain clearance eligibility for access to military facilities, Naval shipyards, and private shipyards. The employee must be willing and able to travel within and outside the continental United States for installation, testing, integration, troubleshooting, and technical support. Work may take place in office, laboratory, industrial, or shipboard environments. Physical duties include moving materials within one-person lift guidelines, conducting site surveys, accessing shipboard and laboratory workspaces, and carrying a laptop computer. Employment offers are contingent on successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • At least six years of professional experience performing mechanical engineering design, development, or integration activities.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, preferably AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, including 3D modeling, engineering drawings, and assembly design.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), Technical Data Packages (TDPs), and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ability to assess mechanical designs for material selection, manufacturing feasibility, cost efficiency, and product quality.
  • Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and engineering communication skills.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance and ability to maintain the clearance.
  • Ability to maintain clearance eligibility to access military facilities, Naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
  • Willingness and ability to support CONUS and OCONUS travel for installation, field testing, integration, troubleshooting, and technical support.
  • Ability to obtain by the start of the position and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID, if required for domestic air travel or access to secure federal facilities or military bases.
  • Ability to work in office, laboratory, industrial, or shipboard environments; move materials within one-person lift guidelines; perform site surveys; access shipboard and laboratory workspaces; and carry a laptop computer.
  • Successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include background investigation, employment and education verification, drug screening, driving record review, clearance eligibility, and government installation access.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing mechanical engineering support for Department of Defense (DoD) or U.S. Navy systems and equipment.
  • Familiarity with military environmental qualification standards, including applicable MIL-STD requirements.
  • Experience supporting mechanical systems throughout the product lifecycle, from initial design and prototype development through production and sustainment.
  • Previous experience providing technical leadership, engineering oversight, or mentorship to junior engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical engineering design and development for electromechanical assemblies, equipment, and associated components supporting Naval applications.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), considering component accuracy, material availability, manufacturing feasibility, and cost.
  • Prepare and update Technical Data Packages (TDPs), including engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Use Autodesk Inventor and other CAD applications to develop 3D models, detailed mechanical drawings, and assembly configurations.
  • Participate in environmental qualification and engineering testing to evaluate equipment performance under temperature, vibration, humidity, and other operating conditions.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering personnel to ensure component integration and overall system functionality.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, and design modifications to address technical deficiencies and improve system performance.
  • Review engineering designs for compliance with applicable military specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support CONUS and OCONUS travel for system installation, field testing, integration, troubleshooting, and technical support.
  • Maintain required clearance eligibility and credentials for access to military facilities, Naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
