Production Engineer

INEOS•Plaquemine, LA

About The Position

The Production Engineer leads improvements to the Dow assets by gathering and analyzing data to identify and evaluate opportunities. Working with operations personnel, the engineer takes ownership of improvement work and drives results, focusing on operational gaps and knowledge-based solutions. The role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the assigned production unit, maintaining plant assets and protective-system integrity, and meeting established production targets. The engineer identifies and implements process improvements and develops process-engineering capabilities, including steady-state and dynamic modelling, unit-operations design, heat exchange, distillation, and fluid-dynamics calculations. The position provides process engineering leadership in safety, health, and environmental compliance; process safety management; manufacturing excellence; troubleshooting; performance monitoring; and continuous improvement. It also supports operations during upsets, start-ups, and turnarounds, and provides production-engineering support for capital projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
  • Keen computer skills and knowledge of MS Office.
  • Process modelling using Aspen software.
  • Equipment sizing and PSV sizing.
  • Knowledge of distillation column operations, PSM, and hydraulics.
  • Process troubleshooting skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Safety role-model behavior.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze data.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 1 year of plant process experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe and efficient production-unit operations in accordance with established operating disciplines and procedures.
  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance, maintain plant assets and protective-system integrity, and define and maintain operating envelopes.
  • Investigate deviations from operating envelopes and implement risk mitigation for loss-of-containment scenarios.
  • Lead or participate in PSM and environmental activities, including PHAs, MOC reviews, risk assessments, incident investigations, and PSSRs.
  • Develop and maintain critical-asset lists, safety-system impairment and bypass procedures, and the MOC procedure.
  • Participate in safety programs, AsCare tours, audits, and incident and near-miss reporting; complete assigned action items.
  • Deliver production targets while meeting quality specifications.
  • Troubleshoot process issues with production, quality, maintenance, and operations teams.
  • Benchmark, identify, and implement improvements and best practices to improve unit operation and efficiency.
  • Participate in operator development and training, and cross-train to provide backup for the Production Engineer role for both Dow assets.
  • Lead or participate in root-cause investigations and help identify and close performance gaps, including through project development and execution.
  • Validate project performance objectives after implementation and coach site personnel on technology performance and asset-utilization data.
  • Track unit efficiency, production losses, and first-pass prime; identify opportunities to optimize operations, reduce cost and waste, and improve supply reliability.
  • Establish key performance indicators and monitoring processes to identify and address deviations proactively.
  • Use engineering practices and modelling software to identify plant bottlenecks, predict equipment performance, and develop capacity improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and improve the process using the proprietary Dow MOD V process control system.
  • Evaluate typical analytical data annually and update typical values as needed.
  • Support operations during upset conditions, start-ups, and turnarounds, including serving as backup for the plant production specialist.
  • Attend meetings with Dow to understand production needs and exchange information supporting continuous improvement.
  • Support capital projects as the production representative and provide normal operating conditions and equipment design parameters, including maximum pressures, temperatures, and flows.
