Production Engineer

INEOS•Plaquemine, LA

About The Position

INEOS Oxide is hiring a Production Engineer to lead improvement efforts for its Dow assets. The role gathers and analyzes data to identify and evaluate opportunities, works with operations personnel to prioritize operational and knowledge gaps, and takes ownership of initiatives through to results. The engineer supports the safe, efficient operation of the assigned production unit, maintains asset and protective-system integrity, and helps deliver business production targets. The role also develops process-engineering capabilities, including process modeling and unit-operations design and calculations. The Production Engineer provides process and manufacturing support across safety, environmental compliance, production performance, troubleshooting, training, continuous improvement, and capital projects. The position supports plant operations during upsets, start-ups, and turnarounds, and serves as a backup for the plant Production Specialist. Performance is assessed against safety and environmental, production, reliability, quality, cost, efficiency, compliance, and action-item completion targets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
  • Keen computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to serve as a safety role model.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of plant process experience is preferred.
  • Process modeling using Aspen software.
  • Equipment sizing and pressure safety valve (PSV) sizing.
  • Knowledge of distillation-column operations, process safety management (PSM), hydraulics, and process troubleshooting.
  • Training skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe and efficient production-unit operation in accordance with operating disciplines and procedures, and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain plant asset and protective-system integrity; develop and maintain critical-asset lists and procedures for safety-system impairments or bypasses.
  • Define and maintain operating envelopes, review plant data, and investigate deviations.
  • Participate in developing operating procedures and training materials.
  • Lead or support Process Safety Management and environmental activities, including PHAs, Management of Change, risk assessments, incident investigations, MOC input and approval, and PSSR execution for MOCs.
  • Investigate SHE incidents, report and address near misses, complete assigned actions from PHAs, incidents, and audits, and participate in AsCare tours and audits.
  • Identify and implement risk mitigation for loss-of-containment scenarios and uphold plant safety policies and standards, including the 20 Principles of Safety.
  • Deliver production targets and quality specifications for the Dow asset.
  • Troubleshoot process issues with production, quality, maintenance, and operations teams; provide support during upsets, start-ups, and turnarounds.
  • Cross-train and provide backup for the Production Engineer role for both Dow assets, including backup support for the plant Production Specialist.
  • Benchmark, identify, and implement improvements and best practices to improve unit operation and efficiency.
  • Contribute to operator development and training programs and coach site personnel on technology performance and asset-utilization data.
  • Lead or participate in root-cause investigations and help identify and close performance gaps, including through project development and execution.
  • Validate project performance objectives after implementation and support capital projects as the production representative.
  • Track unit efficiency, production losses, first-pass prime, and key performance indicators; identify opportunities to reduce cost and waste and improve supply reliability and product quality.
  • Use engineering practices to identify plant bottlenecks and present solutions to increase capacity.
  • Troubleshoot and improve the process using the proprietary Dow MOD V process control system.
  • Evaluate typical analytical data annually and update typical values as needed.
  • Attend meetings with Dow to understand production needs and exchange information for continuous improvement.
  • Use modeling software as needed to predict process-equipment performance.
  • Provide normal operating conditions and maximum equipment pressures, temperatures, flows, and other design inputs.
