About The Position

Launch Hardware develops Starship processing facilities, launch pads, and recovery vessels to enable aircraft-like launch operations. The department executes multiple construction and fabrication projects in parallel, with robust pre-planning and frequent changes. The Production Control Scheduler owns scheduling for a production work center, from daily execution through long-term rate planning. The role identifies and removes blockers, coordinates hardware allocation and shared resources, manages schedule risks, and works across production teams, customers, and suppliers to support on-time delivery. Aerospace experience is not required; SpaceX seeks inventive, motivated, collaborative people who respond rapidly to requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience in manufacturing scheduling, planning, or operations; alternatively, at least 3 years of professional experience in those fields in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 1 year of experience using ERP/MRP systems in a production environment.
  • Ability to travel, potentially up to 25% of the work week.
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones.
  • Ability to pass an Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Remarkable problem-solving skills with a bias for speed and accuracy.
  • Self-motivation, quick learning, and the ability to prioritize work to meet customer and company goals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external supplier and customer relationships in a fast-moving, changing environment.
  • Technical knowledge and coding or computer application skills, such as MS Office Suite, VBA, Smartsheet, SQL, Confluence, JIRA, or Power BI.
  • A strong record of implementing continuous improvement, ideally using lean principles, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other problem-solving frameworks.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams working on strategic problems.
  • Project management professional certification.

Responsibilities

  • Own production scheduling for an assigned production work center, managing day-to-day tasks and projecting long-term department rate needs.
  • Create rate-based hardware schedules and define and track constraints for upcoming builds and missions.
  • Use established schedules to develop scenarios and gain stakeholder buy-in for optimal allocation of new and refurbished hardware, considering customer needs, the mission manifest, and customer quality requirements.
  • Work with production teams to set, track, and execute daily and weekly goals that account for personnel and equipment constraints while supporting overall rate targets.
  • Build relationships with customers and internal and external suppliers, and communicate accurate hardware needs and completion-date estimates.
  • Understand MRP requirements and logic for assigned hardware and lead cross-functional efforts to improve MRP accuracy and alignment between targeted and actual schedules.
  • Schedule and prioritize hardware at shared resources across SpaceX departments, negotiate priorities with peers, and seek solutions that support the overall business outcome.
  • Use SQL queries and Excel databases to identify shortages for upcoming builds and coordinate the movement of needed hardware into the production area.
  • Identify, develop, and implement scheduling automation opportunities to reduce manual schedule development, tracking, and updates.
  • Conduct work-center capacity analysis, identify causes of schedule slips, and lead reactive and proactive efforts to reduce near- and long-term schedule risk.
  • Investigate root causes of build issues and develop permanent resolutions to remove internal and external blockers to on-time delivery; address assembly-level and integration misalignment.
  • Identify and support improvements to product yield, quality, safety, cost, and team efficiency.
