About The Position

PDS Optical is seeking a Digital Surface Technician for its Digital Surface Department in an optical laboratory. The role involves operating optical manufacturing equipment to block, generate, and polish lenses, apply backside coating, and laser the lenses to the designated curve on the concave side. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., paying $17.00 per hour. Optical laboratory or mass manufacturing experience is preferred but not required; on-the-job training is provided.

The position is performed in a production/manufacturing environment. The workplace can sometimes be warm and somewhat loud, and the role involves working near a diverse group of coworkers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

• Ability to stand and work on one's feet for 8 hours.
• Ability to learn to operate all machines in the designated area.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate all machines within the designated area.
• Change and install Filter Tech rolls with a partner as necessary.
• Address equipment errors and alarms on the automated surface line when they do not require a tool to repair.
• Learn the order of laboratory production, the Julian Day Number (JND) system, and which jobs are designated as hot or priority jobs for completion first.
• Transport production trays as needed.
• Clean the work area and machines during and after the shift.
• Maintain a steady workflow.
